Supporting Responsible Gaming Through Education
MGM China has concluded the second phase of its collaborative program with the City University of Macau (CityU), reinforcing its commitment to responsible gaming and financial wellness education. The initiative is designed to help university students better understand the gaming industry while encouraging healthy financial habits and informed decision-making.
Campus Ambassador Programme Brings Learning to Life
A key element of the initiative was the Responsible Gaming Campus Ambassador Programme. More than 30 students from disciplines such as tourism management, hospitality, and social work participated in a structured learning experience that blended classroom instruction with practical application.
Through guided training sessions, students explored topics including the development of Macau’s gaming industry, common misconceptions about gaming, and strategies for promoting responsible play. After completing the program, the ambassadors applied their knowledge by organizing community-focused activities, including financial literacy games for families, responsible gaming carnivals, and awareness events at popular public locations.
Creativity Drives Financial Wellness Messaging
Alongside the ambassador program, MGM and CityU introduced the Healthy Financial Management Promotional Design Competition. Open to all students, the competition encouraged participants to create engaging content that promotes responsible gaming and sound money management through design, digital media, and educational concepts.
All submitted projects were showcased online, generating significant engagement and drawing more than 110,000 views. The response demonstrated how creative approaches can make complex topics like financial wellness more accessible and appealing to a wider audience.
Celebrating Student Achievement
The initiative concluded with a ceremony recognizing the efforts of participating students and award winners. Representatives from MGM China, City University of Macau, and public institutions attended the event, highlighting the value of collaboration between the private sector, academia, and the community.
“The second-year program has empowered students to creatively adopt healthy financial concepts across campuses and communities,”
said Tina Wong, Director of Responsible Gaming at MGM, adding that the company believes collaboration among “government + enterprises + schools + organizations” will continue to lay “a solid foundation for Macau’s sustainability.”
“Both programs, organized around ‘theory plus practice’ and ‘competition plus innovation’ models, have so far managed to effectively stimulate student creativity while also solidifying the students’ sense of greater social responsibility. We are optimistic that those award-winning projects will continue to grow in influence, providing fresh energy toward sustainable development in Macau,”
said Ip Kuai Peng, Vice Rector of City University of Macau.
Strengthening Long-Term Social Impact
The continued partnership between MGM China and CityU reflects a broader goal of integrating responsible gaming principles and financial literacy into everyday life. By empowering students to become advocates within their communities, the program contributes to building a more informed, resilient, and sustainable society across Macau.
